About This Webinar

Victims of sexual abuse and assault often seek therapy not BECAUSE they have been sexually abused or assaulted, but for their reaction to it.  Commonly, these clients present depression, anxiety, anger, problematic alcohol / drug use, and problems in desired sexual functioning as consequences of their having been abused or assaulted.  A great deal of hopelessness often is present with these clients when they attribute their symptoms to these historical events.  Given the fact that they know that they cannot change the historical events, they believe that they are “stuck” with their misery.

This webinar will teach the clinician how to help the client to identify and correct the client’s personal meaning associated with those experiences and to correct irrational / dysfunctional meanings, thus producing long-term results.

What You Will Learn

  • How to conceptualize sexual abuse / assault from a cognitive-behavioral perspective.
  • How to utilize CBT assessment techniques to identify cognitive distortions learned from the client’s experience of sexual abuse / assault.
  • How to utilize CBT techniques to eliminate / correct the client’s cognitive distortions acquired during their experience of sexual abuse / assault.
  • How to create long-term / permanent results
