METHODS OF INTERVENTION
- I hold a specialty credential as a Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapist from the NACBT. This method has been widely researched during the past 30 years and has ample research support as an effective intervention for many common issues or disorders. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a positive, realistic, and practical approach that teaches individuals how to improve their mental health by changing how they think about themselves and others. They learn to take personal reponsibility to change their behavior in constructive ways. I value the hope that people gain from this approach. The overall goal is for people conclude the therapy process, having learned effective coping skills they can use through the rest of their lives.
- Another important aspect of my approach to psychotherapy is the emphasis I place on the therapeutic relationship with the client as a vehicle for healing and recovery. Technique alone is not enough to produce lasting change. The quality of the professional relationship has a major impact on outcome. Reasearch shows that effective growth and therapetic change occurs within a warm and empathic alliance with the client. I endeavor to establish that sort of working alliance. It is also expected that a collaborative effort is made to work toward specific treatment goals. This gives us a definite sense of direction and a rewarding sense of moving forward in progress. People in despair, those in fear, and people who are frustrated benefit greatly from the hope of a new dawn. I try to focus on that sense of moving toward a new tomorrow one step at a time. Finally, for those clients who request it, I provide therapy working within a faith-based framework of values and core beliefs. Some clients find it worthwhile and meaningful to address matters of faith at a time of crisis, pain, grief, or life adjustment. By request, the treatment plan can include topics such as forgiveness, guilt, grace, suffering, prayer and meditation, bofy image and self-worth, love, and hope. Faith is about foundational belief. And what we believe has much significance for who we are and who we become. Although I do not offer counseling via e-mail, you can send me an e-mail with your brief inquiries as shown below.
